Assembly Methods
The simplest method of layout assembly is “bottom up”, which starts with the first level’s floor(s), connect all first level walls to each other, then attach that set of walls to the first level floor all at once. If there’s a ceiling (or a second level), attach to the top of the first level, followed by connecting all second level walls together, then finally connecting that set of walls to the second level’s floor (first level’s ceiling).
As layouts get more complicated, this approach may become unwieldy and alternative methods can be used. Consider the layout before beginning to pick the best approach, and don’t hesitate to experiment! The system is designed to be disassembled and reassembled over and over again.
Example Assembly - Two Wall Room Box
- Optionally install wall coverings and any windows and/or doors to the walls. It is a bit easier to do this now rather than after the room is assembled.
- Insert floor connector bars into two adjacent edges of the floor, using the BOTTOM row of holes
- Insert a wall connector bar into the vertical edge of one of the two walls.
- Connect the second wall to the first using the wall connector bar to form an “L” shape.
- Place the two walls over the floor connector bars and press down firmly. The connection can be tight, wiggle the walls gently if necessary to fit them all the way down onto the floor connector bars.
- Optionally install a floor covering by sliding it onto the floor, and add floor edge caps to retain it.
- Add crown molding and baseboards to hold the top/bottom edges of wallpapers and hold down the floor covering edges.
- Insert a wall top edge cap in to each wall’s top edge to cover the holes.
- Insert any desired MagSlip magnets into the wall channels before inserting wall edge caps to cover the channel holes.
Using MagSlip Magnets
Magnets can be inserted into the channels inside the walls to mount virtually anything such as lights, cabinets, shelves, pictures & mirrors, clocks, etc. Simply remove the edge cap of a wall and insert a magnet into a channel at the height desired. Use the magnets on the item being mounted to catch the inserted magnet and slide horizontally into position, then pull down slightly to seat the internal magnet. Optionally you can use the back of the MagSlip Multitool to catch and drag magnets into position.
Spots on walls can be between windows and doors. You can temporarily remove a window or door to expose access to those channels. This can also be used to add magnets to more complex layouts when accessing the edge of a wall might be difficult.
Magnets have a polarity, so be aware that the accessory being used may require the inserted MagSlip magnet be turned one way or the other to attract the accessory’s magnets.
Installing Wallpaper
MagSlip wallpapers are tailor-made for MagSlip walls. You can get any wallpaper pattern cut to fit any wall door/window configuration. They are also double-sided so they can work on either side of the wall.
- Remove the crown molding, baseboard, vertical edge cap, and all doors and windows from the wall.
- Fit the wallpaper against the wall so the holes in the paper align with the wall cutouts. Be sure the wallpaper does not hang over a wall cutout edge, else a window or door can crimp the paper. If the wall is part of a room already, you can slide the paper down the wall.
- Reinstall any windows and doors carefully. The flange on the windows/doors help hold the wallpaper in place.
- Reattach the crown molding and baseboard to hold the top and bottom edges, and re-install any edge cap to hold the vertical edge.
Installing Floor Covering
- Remove one floor edge cap from the edge of the floor.
- Slide the floor covering under the baseboards/remaining floor edge cap until it is flush with the open edge.
- Re-install the floor edge cap to hold the floor covering in place.
Disassembly
MagSlip walls and floors are intended to be reconfigurable again and again. Be careful to not bend connector bars, or to force connections apart as the walls/floors can be damaged.
- Remove all furniture, wall accessories, and MagSlip magnets from their channels
- Insert the MagSlip Multitool pry edge (or similar blunt, thin object) at the edge of each wall between the wall and connector bar.
- Gently twist to pry the wall/floor off the bar a little bit.
- Work your way along the connector bar to pry the remainder completely off.
- Repeat to other walls and floors.
Notes
- Walls have a top and bottom. Look along a side edge, the end with the longer white space is the bottom, and should be the edge used to connect to floors.
- Either side of a wall can face into a room, the only difference will be the polarity of the permanent magnets used for crown molding and baseboards.
- Assembling complex layouts can be a bit of a puzzle. Consider in advance which walls/floors should have the connectors inserted and the order the walls/floors are put together.
- When using a lot of MagSlip magnets in the walls, they can push each other around if not attached to anything. Either make sure to mount each wall accessory as you add it, or temporarily hold the magnets in position with a magnet on the outside.
- It is easiest to install wallpaper, windows, and doors before connecting walls and floors together.
